Artell: "I'm Sure We Will Be Offered More Players"

7 July 2017

David Artell enjoyed another busy week in the transfer market bringing in the versatile Eddie Nolan following his release from newly promoted Blackpool and getting the signing of Brad Walker, 21, over the line after the club agreed on an undisclosed fee with Hartlepool United.

Artell has now signed five new players this summer with Jordan Bowery signing on a permanent deal following on from his successful loan spell with us. He has been joined by experienced striker Chris Porter from Colchester and the former Carlisle United defender Michael Raynes.

The Crewe boss says he will reassess his squad and has stressed that his business may continue as we prepare for the new season. Artell would still like a permanent signing but has not ruled out exploring the loan market.

Clubs tend to loan their players out once the new season starts and those players are not involved.

Artell told crewealex.net: “The closer we get to window shutting, the more desperate players and agents get, so you never know what you may be offered. I have been pleased to have got the majority of our business done early, so they are here with us.

“I am sure there will be players who will become available and I have always said that we will consider them if we think they can make a difference. We are always looking.

“We wouldn’t rule out a loan but we are trying to get our own. We will keep assessing things and see where we are and what we possibly might need if we were suffer one or two injures. If we are short then we will go again I’m sure.”
