Artell Remains Hopeful On Injured Trio

17 July 2017

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell remains hopeful that his injured trio, Jordan Bowery, James Jones and George Ray will be fit for the opening day of the season on 5th August. Artell has admitted that it could be a ‘push’ to have them available for the opener against Mansfield, but he says the players could not be working any harder.

Bowery and Jones have successfully had hernia operations and are now working hard on their rehabilitation.

Ray’s fracture in his back is still healing slowly but he has been out running with the club’s medical staff to step up his progress. Ray was injured over the Easter period away at Yeovil.

Artell told the club’s official web-site: “Jonah and Jordan have had their hernia operations and they were successful. They are well on their way. It is too soon to say if they if will be available for the first game of the season. If I am honest it might be push but I remain hopeful.

“They are all giving a real go. George’s back is still healing but he has been working hard and coming along nicely. We won’t be rushing anyone back because we want them to be right. We don’t them to be back for the first few games and then suffer a set-back. “
