The Window Can Be Frustrating

3 January 2017

Boss hoping to add new faces during January to freshen his squad up.

Steve Davis is hoping that he will be able to freshen his squad up with one or two new faces during the January transfer window. The Crewe Alexandra boss would like to add competition to his starting eleven and has already held discussions with his head of recruitment Neil Baker and the board of directors about possible targets.

The Alex boss said: “As the manager, I will do what is in the best interests of the club and will operate within the budget. If there is some money available then I will try to bring one or two in. It will depend what we have available and who is available.

“When you go into the January window, it is always a process because the players you do tend to be offered haven’t played all that much and need to work on their match fitness.

“You have to see who is available, if they want to come and can we afford it. You then have to decide if they are indeed better than what you already have. There are a lot of questions and it can be a frustrating time for all managers. I won’t be the only manager saying that but it is part of the game and something you have to deal with.

“If you can find those one or two that can improve you and increase the competition within the squad then you have to do as much as you can to try and get it over the line.

“It is all part of the recruitment process but having that real competition for places, only enhances performances.”
