Steve: "Players Massively Lacking In Confidence"

7 January 2017

Boss gives us post-match reaction from Field Mill following 3-0 defeat.

"The players are lacking massively in confidence and we have got to get results and put in good performances to get that back. "

"I've spoken to the board about what we are going to try and do in January. Who we want to loan some out and who we want to bring in and that has taken place. Those conversations will resume next week because we do need one or two new faces in to help the group.

"It is hard personally and it is hard for the club. We are all suffering. The staff, players and the fans who have come here. They will be frustrated and disappointed with the way the game went. We want it to be right and we want to work hard to put it right. I've never quit anything. That is not in my nature and I work as hard as I can until I'm told otherwise. I want to work hard and turn things around and we do have some fighters in the camp.

"So for all the possession we had, it all comes down to what happens inside the two boxes. They seized on things that dropped for them and we didn't. There were some good performances from us. I thought the two full-backs were good, Jon did well but there were a lot of disappointing performances as well. It was below the standard and when you are like that, it is very hard to wing games. Although we controlled parts of the game and I was pleased with us in possession at times, but what matters is that we have lost the game 3-0 and it looks as though we have been battered.

"Those key moments can decide games and we were disappointed not to get it. We went in at half time 1-0 down. We put Lowey on to give Daggers some help up there. Alex was ill so we had to come off and then a few minutes later we are 2-0 down.

Afterwards, Steve told the club's official web-site: "We didn't start both halves well enough and it was disappointing to concede so early. I thought we should have had a penalty at 1-0 because he has caught Zoumana's heal. Maybe he should have dived and then we would have probably given it but he tried to keep his feet. It should still be a penalty.

Steve Davis could not hide his disappointment as his Crewe Alexandra side were beaten 3-0 by Steve Evans' Mansfield Town. Crewe were undone by two early goals at the beginning of each We didWe  half and Rhys Bennett completed the scoring with a late tap in. The defeat leaves Crewe in18th spot in League Two and without a win in seven games.
