Boss: "I Have Faith In My Forwards"

24 January 2017

David Artell says he has enough quality in his squad to score the goals we will need.

David Artell believes that he has enough firepower in his squad to score Crewe Alexandra to safety. Artell has lost his leading scorer, Ryan Lowe, to League One Bury, but he feels that the partnership between new loan signing Jordan Bowery and Chris Dagnall can flourish.

Artell firmly believes that the likes of Dagnall, Cooper and Kiwomya will return to scoring by having the extra physical presence of Bowery in the final third.

The new Crewe Alexandra boss felt that the partnership shows signs of real promise at Doncaster and the work has continued on the training ground this week.

Ahead of our home game against Cheltenham, Artell said: “I thought the partnership showed some positive signs. Jordan had two one-on-one situations and Daggers had a shot saved before Jonah put the rebound in. They linked up well and they complement each other. I think they showed signs of forming an effective partnership and I’m sure Jordan will help those around him.

“Daggers was unbelievable for us at Doncaster. He worked his socks off and that is exactly what I want to see. Words can be cheap but he showed what it all about.  He was distraught in the dressing room afterwards after the result.

“I think we have enough quality in this squad to score goals and win football matches. I do. They may be a bit short of confidence but they will get that back.

David added: “With Ryan leaving, it means Daniel (Udoh) and Callum (Saunders) are closer to the team and it’s another opportunity for them if anything happens to Daggers or Jordan. They have to step up to the plate.”
