Artell: "We Have To Build On Positives"

18 January 2017

Alex boss says his side have to improve on second half display.

Crewe Alexandra manager David Artell says that his team need to improve the fine margins that can decide matches.

Artell was disappointed to lose his first game in charge of the club against Luton Town on Saturday after Captain Ryan Lowe had fired us into the lead.

Artell has told the club’s official web-site: “I watched the game again and it only confirmed what I thought. We were good for 44 minutes but we need to be better in both boxes.

“We need to do well in both halves as well and that is the challenge for us. I thought we were naïve and were nervous in the second half and it was fine margins that decided the game.

“Luton are a good side and they have been going well. They are in the play-offs and shown the standard. We have to match that and we were a bit one dimensional in the second half.

He added: “We should have been going in at the interval 2-0 up but went in at 1-1. That is a fine line and it gave them a lift. The players took that on board. They know that and we have to keep level headed and not get too despondent. There were some real positives to take from the performance and some good individual performances.”
