Kirk Set To Miss Three Games After Sending Off

7 February 2017

Charlie out of action after Exeter dismissal

Crewe Alexandra winger Charlie Kirk is set to miss the next three matches after his straight red card at Exeter on Saturday.

The 19-year-old will miss the home matches with Grimsby & Wycombe as well as the trip to Blackpool.

As the dismissal was categorised as serious foul play, he will also be ineligible for Under 23 & Senior Cup fixtures during the duration of his suspension.

Manager Dave Artell has reviewed the incident & has decided not to appeal the decision - which is Crewe's first sending off of the 2016/17 season.

He said: "I can’t defend Charlie, he shouldn’t have done what he did. He has given the referee the opportunity to send him off.

“He had a bad touch and he has lunged in. Did he catch the lad? No. But it’s a silly sending off and he’ll need to learn from it.

“He’s going to miss three games and he has been one of our brighter players. He’ll have to suffer the consequences.

“The referee couldn’t wait to get his red card out. The fact he missed a far, far worse challenge on George Cooper – which was a real leg-breaker – was diabolical.”
