Midfielder says Grimsby win has injected confidence into the squad.
James Jones is hoping the 5-0 win over Grimsby on Saturday, is now just a start of a good run of form for the Alex. Midfielder Jones may not have been on the score-sheet at Gresty Road on Saturday, but the Scotland Youth International has added goals to his game this season and he was just as pleased to see his new team-mate Callum Cooke get off the mark with the final goal against the Mariners.
Jonah is now hoping that that top performance can lead to another top display and more points against Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday night.
Jones told the Alex Matchday magazine: “Callum played well on his debut and it was more of the same against Grimsby with him getting a goal was well. Hopefully, they’ll be more to come from him and we can have a good partnership in there. Danny (Hollands) helps that because he sits and prevents us getting done on the counter-attack.
“It does help spending that extra time with him, talking to him and finding out more about him as a person and that helps then when you get out on the pitch when you feel a bit more comfortable with someone.
“The more I play with Callum, the more I’ll understand what his game is and he’ll understand what my game is and we can work together to benefit the team.
“I feel that the Wycombe one was a bit of a freak result, no one really saw it coming. We were on a real run at the time, but in this league anyone can beat anyone so I don’t think it’s any cause for concern that they beat us earlier on in the season.
Jonah added: “With 16 games left it doesn’t sound like a lot, but there are a lot of points up for grabs and we’ll play teams in and around us and one run and we’ll be fine – but it’s a real time to pull together now and get ourselves out of this.”
