Dave: "There Will Be No Excuses From Me"

9 February 2017

Alex boss says our fate is in our own hands as we battle for home points.

Crewe Alexandra manager David Artell wants his side to take full advantage of our two upcoming home games to make sure we get some points on the board. The Railwaymen host Grimsby Town on Saturday and then Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday evening, hoping to end a run of 11 games without a victory.

Artell believes his side have had a tough fixture list of late, playing three teams who are aiming for promotion at the end of the season and experiencing a tense home game against fellow strugglers Cheltenham Town.

Ahead of our home game against Grimsby, Artell said: “We have had some tough games of late but they are all difficult. There are no easy games.

“We have played three of the top six or seven and two of them have been away from home but we are not using that as an excuse. We have to be doing better and we won’t be saying oh well it was Doncaster away because we want to play well and get something from every game. There will be no excuses from me, no chance.

“Every game is hard but we have two home games coming up in a short space of time and we want to use that to our advantage. They are all different challenges and Grimsby and Wycombe will be the same. We have to embrace each challenge and whatever pressure comes with that.

“This group is good enough. They showed it for the large majority of the Cheltenham game. They have shown it in patches in the other three games that I’ve been in charge of, but that is all it has been, patches.

He added: “We have to be better. The spirit is good, it can be better. The unity is good, it could be better. We can all do our jobs better. We can clear the ball better. We can take our chances better. Adding all those little things up will see us improve.”
