Margetts loan deal cannot be implemented due to FIFA Regulation.

Due to FIFA’s rules and regulations regarding player appearances and contracts for the 2016-17 season, which means players are only permitted to make competitive appearances for a maximum of two teams, Jonny Margetts loan move to Crewe Alexandra from Scunthorpe United could not be implemented.

Our subsequent understanding is that the rules this year have been modified, so players who have played for National League clubs are now also affected by the regulation. Margetts played for Lincoln City at the beginning of the season and joined Scunthorpe United at the end of the summer window.

The issue came to Crewe Alexandra's attention late Thursday evening, following which the club were in contact with the EFL and our manager David Artell was immediately informed that the player was to be omitted from the travelling squad for our fixture at Exeter pending further guidance from the EFL and the Football Association, which will be subject to a further statement in due course.

The striker joined Crewe Alexandra on loan late on deadline day, but FIFA regulations have prevented the loan from been implemented.

It is unfortunate that Johnny will not be available for Crewe Alexandra and he will now return to his parent club.
