Boss: "We Would Have Won With Daggers"

Artell on Daggers red card that rocked us more than Stevenage

ewe Alexandra boss David Artell has revealed that he has spoken to Chris Dagnall in regards to his red card against Stevenage.Cr

The Crewe striker reacted angrily after being punched by the Stevenage goalkeeper Jamie Jones after he had gone over to apologise to him for catching him with his boot. Dagnall was booked for the challenge and then shown a straight red card for the dust up with Jones. The Stevenage goalkeeper was also red carded as tempers boiled over.

Artell believes that if Dagnall had managed to control himself after being struck then we would have gone on to win the game. Crewe lost 2-1 after conceding two preventable goals from set-plays.

Dave told crewealex.net: “I’ve spoken to Chris about it. He was punched by their goalkeeper and his reaction to that took him by surprise. He has reacted in the wrong way. I didn’t think he didn’t do too much and he certainly didn’t throw a punch back, but you cannot react that like. You cannot do it and it had managed to react probably then we would have won the game.

He added: “11 vs 10 would have made it a whole new ball game for us but like Charlie (Kirk) at Exeter, Daggers has given the ref the opportunity to send him off. It was disappointing because he was in great form for us.”
