David Artell challenges his fringe players to keep pushing for places.
David Artell has challenged his fringe players to continue to apply pressure on those ahead of them in the team. The Crewe Alexandra was pleased with the Under-23s performance on Monday with goals from the returning Billy Bingham and forward Charlie Kirk giving us a deserved 2-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday.
Artell has welcomed the competition for places and says that he wants his players to give him a selection headache.
Artell told the club’s official web-site: “It is a great problem to have and I want those tough decisions to make. I would much rather have players knocking on my door believing they should be in the team than having none at all.
“I want that competition for places and I want those out of the team to be doing everything they can to make sure they get into the team. I want them to see what is happening in the first team and for them to be thinking they want some of that.
“We have had a good week but it is one week and the trick is to have 30 of them or better still 46. We want to be moving on to better things and this has been a good start.”
