Artell: "We Remain In The Mix"

10 February 2017

Crewe Alexandra boss says he is busy trying to locate a free agent to bolster his options.

Crewe Alexandra manager David Artell says the club remain in the mix for signing a free agent to bolster his squad. The Alex boss has revealed to the club’s official web-site that he has already spoken to a potential forward, who is currently unattached and available.

Artell is back in the market after our loan deal for Scunthorpe’s Jonny Margetts could not be implemented due to FIFA’s ruling about players representing three clubs in the same season.

Artell told crewealex.net: “We are working hard on it but nothing significant has happened yet. I have spoken to a forward and he is playing the waiting game. He has options but we are in that mix, so we just have to wait and see.

“I’ve said before that the shop is open for business and if we can find that little gem that could improve us then we would do all we can to make it happen.

“We are working hard to find one and we can only sign free agents, so there is not real time scale on it. Some players are brave and genuinely wait to see what happens after the window closes and it is trying to find that one that could make a difference, but there will be a lot of managers doing the same.

The boss added: “If we do find one then great, if we don’t then this group is still good enough. They just have to believe it themselves a bit more and then the confidence will come back.”
