Artell: "We Go Again"

14 February 2017

David Artell calls on his players to show the same mind-set against Wycombe this evening.

David Artell wants his Crewe Alexandra players to go into tonight’s game against Wycombe Wanderers with the same mind-set that saw us defeat Grimsby Town 5-0 on Saturday. The Alex produced their best performance of the season to lead 4-0 at the break and the excellent Callum Cooke added a deserved fifth goal close to the end of the game.

Artell celebrated his first victory as a manager but says it was all about his players: “It isn’t about what I do or my words of inspiration, it is all about the players. They are the ones that go out there and execute the plan.

“It’s not about me, it never has been and it never will be. It’s about the players and about everybody sticking together.

“Daggers and Jordan set the tone in the opening seconds on Saturday with their work rate. We scored after two minutes though George Cooper and then got another goal, then another and you could suddenly see the belief returning. It is all those collective fractions and positives coming back.

“Of course, it will be another tough test against Wycombe, they are higher in the league and are a good side but we have to perform with that same confidence and belief.

He added: “We have to go into the game with the same mind-set and hopefully out quality will shin through again.”
