Artell: “The Players Have Set The Standard”

Boss challenges troops to replicate Grimsby performance

Crewe Alex boss Dave Artell has challenged his players to repeat their Grimsby heroics every game, starting with Wycombe this mid-week.

Noticing the confidence building throughout his entire side with every goal scored in the 5-0 drubbing, he wants his squad to take that goal-scoring feeling, and keeping a clean sheet, and channel it into every match day.

Dave said: "It's only one win, it's only three points, but the manner of the victory is so much more than a nervy 1-0.

"It's something to build on. That's two clean sheets at home on the spin, which is just as important, & we go again.

"The players have set the standard now. I want to see that level of commitment, work rate & quality every week - because we were terrific from the first minute on Saturday.

"We score a goal two minutes in & suddenly there's that belief. The self-doubt was still there, I could see it, but suddenly another goal goes in, then another goal & you can see the confidence in the whole team.

"We now need to do that for 90 minutes of every game, it's as simple as that."
