Boss challenges troops to replicate Grimsby performance
Crewe Alex boss Dave Artell has challenged his players to repeat their Grimsby heroics every game, starting with Wycombe this mid-week.Noticing the confidence building throughout his entire side with every goal scored in the 5-0 drubbing, he wants his squad to take that goal-scoring feeling, and keeping a clean sheet, and channel it into every match day.
Dave said: "It's only one win, it's only three points, but the manner of the victory is so much more than a nervy 1-0.
"It's something to build on. That's two clean sheets at home on the spin, which is just as important, & we go again.
"The players have set the standard now. I want to see that level of commitment, work rate & quality every week - because we were terrific from the first minute on Saturday.
"We score a goal two minutes in & suddenly there's that belief. The self-doubt was still there, I could see it, but suddenly another goal goes in, then another goal & you can see the confidence in the whole team.
"We now need to do that for 90 minutes of every game, it's as simple as that."
