Artell: "Players Are Working So Hard"

9 February 2017

Boss praises his group as he steps up their work load in preparation for two home games.

David Artell says that his Crewe side have to break our losing habit quickly and he is targeting a first win in 11 games when Grimsby Town visit the Alexandra Stadium on Saturday.

The Mariners may have lost their leading scorer Omar Bogle to Championship side Wigan Athletic on deadline day, but our former player Marcus Bignot will still be targeting a potential play-off place.

The Crewe Alexandra boss told crewealex.net: “Winning is a habit and losing is a habit and at the moment our form book says we are finding it difficult to get wins. There is no getting away from that fact.

“We have to break that and we know it is tough because these players have been on the canvas for a while now. One win can change things quickly. If we can get a positive result then you are holding onto the ropes, get another and although you might have wobbly legs but you are beginning to get up. Get another and you are throwing punches back.

“This group are still fighting, they are working incredibly hard and we have all got to fight, together. We know we have to do better and that only comes from better performance and eradicating silly mistakes.

He added: “It is very rare you come into a job when a team is flying. It doesn’t happen like that. This is no different but we are doing everything we possibly can to help these players turn things around.”
