Artell: "Fragility Raised Its Head Again"

28 February 2017

David Artell gives us his post match reaction following defeat.

David Artell says that his Crewe Alexandra players need to improve their mind-set and quickly after a second half collapse saw Hartlepool win 4-0. Crewe who enjoyed good possession in the first half conceded on the brink of half-time and Artell was annoyed that his players didn't remain in the game.

Artell told the club's official web-site: "There was nothing in the game in the first half and I thought that we were the better side for the second half of the first half but then they have scored in the 45th minute and it was the same story after that I'm afraid. The fragility was there again after going behind and it can't happen. There was a lack of structure and belief after that. When you are 1-0 down you are still in the game. You are in the game at 2-0, they came back at Blackpool. They did it and proved it and they have got to believe themselves.

"We have made individual mistakes again and it has cost us. We lost the ball in the final minute of the first half, after being on top, and against the run of play, they have crossed it into the box, a mistake and its in our net. They were clinical in their finishing and that's the worst its been since I took over.

"I've told them in no uncertain terms that they have a choice. You either work hard or its oblivion in this game. Its that simple, you don't want a relegation into League Two on your CV. No-one here wants that and the players have to ask themselves some questions because we cannot do it all for them. We only have a small influence on the game from the sidelines and at 3pm or 7.45pm it is up to the players tko rise to the challenge."
