Artell: "Disappointed By Margetts Ruling"

8 February 2017

David Artell reflects his disappointment after Margetts is forced to return to Scunthorpe

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell has expressed his disappointment in not being able to complete the loan signing of Jonny Margetts from Scunthorpe due to FIFA’s ruling relating to players representing three clubs in one season.

The Alex boss had to hastily alter his squad preparation for the weekend trip to Exeter City but the club’s official web-site can reveal that the striker would have started on the bench at St. James’ Park. Nevertheless, Artell is understandably frustrated that Margetts was made available to loan in the first place.

David told crewealex.net:  “Scunthorpe shouldn’t have put him up for loan, Scunthorpe have sold the lad and us down the river.

“We then do our due diligence and find it out and when we phone them in the morning they say ‘yes we already know, it’s a bit late for that now’.

“They shouldn’t have put him up for loan, that’s the bottom line. We chose one of two or three players who have been caught.

He added: “Am I angry? Angry’s not the right word. I’m disappointed for the lad, certainly. It could have played out a whole different way.”
