Porter Continues To Lead By Example

5 December 2017

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell says that his experienced centre-forward Chris Porter has become a real leader to the younger ones in the group. Following his brace in the 3-3 draw with Blackburn Rovers on Sunday, Porter took his own personal goal tally to nine goals in all competitions.

The 33-year-old forward has a wealth of experience having amassed over 500 career appearances and Artell admits that he spoke with the club’s more senior players to make sure they continue to assist the younger players in the squad.

The Crewe boss said: “Chris is a great pro and we had a chat with him and a few others of the senior players to make sure they pass on their wisdom to the younger ones.

“We had lunch and we told them to express their views to the younger ones. They have to say what they think is right.

“Chris has taken that on board. He is sometimes a reserved guy but he has great experience and a great pro. He leads by example and has become a great leader.

“He is a great goalscorer and finisher and as a senior player he has helped the group.”
