Artell: "We Have To Build On Chesterfield Win"

28 December 2017

Can Crewe finally get a second back-to-back win?

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell has told the club’s official website that he has been pleased with six points from a possible nine, but he is still targeting back-to-back wins for only second time this season.

Crewe travel to Cambridge United this weekend looking to build on our superb 2-0 win at Chesterfield on Boxing Day.  Goals from Chris Porter and Charlie Kirk gave us a morale boosting win against a fellow struggler and Artell now wants his side to follow that up at the Abbey Stadium.

Ahead of our trip to the U’s, the Crewe boss said: “We have been consistently, inconsistent again and we cannot win 3-0, lose 3-0 and then win 2-0. But if someone had offered us two wins out of the last three then I would probably have taken it at a push.

“I say that because it could have been a lot worse and we wouldn’t have had those six points, but I would be a lot happier if we had performed against Swindon.

“We haven’t had back-to-back wins since we beat Port Vale and then Barnet at the beginning of the season, so we have to build on the Chesterfield result and achieve it at Cambridge.

“I’ve said all along that if we have the belief, play to our potential and don’t shoot ourselves in the foot with the mistakes we make then we will win more games than we lose. It is the truth and I would back my players in this league if that all happens on the day.”
