David Artell admits that he enjoys the Boxing Day fixture in the football calendar and says he wouldn’t want the tradition to disappear with a winter break.
Crewe travel to Chesterfield for our Boxing Day fixture and Artell says it is great for supporters to get some fresh air watching their team in action.
Artell told the club’s official website: “I have never experienced a winter break, so I don’t know if it will be beneficial or better for everyone.
“All I’ve known is playing just before Christmas, then on Boxing Day and then a few days after Boxing Day and then New Year’s Day. We are used to it in this country. The supporters enjoy it.
“What we would be doing on Boxing Day anyway? Probably regretting eating and drinking too much the previous day or watching the King George at Kempton.
“We would probably be watching the fourth test. Watching England get stuffed by the Aussies. That’s not much fun, so I am glad we have a game.”
