Wintle Aiming To Replicate Form

3 August 2017

Youngster Ryan Wintle is hoping he can replicate the form he showed in the second half of last and follow in the footsteps of his fellow midfield player James Jones, who scored 11 times during the last campaign.

Wintle is set to start the seasonal opener against Mansfield this Saturday and the former Alsager Town man is hoping to really establish himself as a regular under David Artell.

The Crewe boss certainly put his faith in the 20-year-old last when Danny Hollands was ruled out for the season after he tore his hamstring badly against Wycombe Wanderers back in February.

Ryan went on to make 19 appearances during the last campaign, and scored his first senior goal with a superb far post header against Leyton Orient in April.

Ahead of the new season, Ryan said: “The pre-season has been tough but everyone can’t wait for the games now. I am feeling fit and the spirit is good in the squad. There are a few new faces and it’s been good.

“I want to establish myself this season and replicate what I did in the second half of last season. When Danny Hollands was injured, the manager showed great faith in me to replace him. He put me on and said that he trusted me to do a job for the team.

“I am still only a young lad myself, so it only gives you a massive boost when the manager does that and then offers you a new contract.

“I want to score and assist more. Jonah did that for us season and that is what I have to add to my game if I can.

Ryan added: “We feel there are goals in this team and we are looking forward to it.”
