Stubbs On Stand-By If Defenders Ruled Out

31 August 2017

Crewe Alexandra will assess the ankle injuries to defenders Michael Raynes and Perry Ng ahead of this weekend’s trip to Grimsby Town. Summer signing Eddie Nolan was also carrying a knock but played through the pain barrier against Newcastle United U-21s on Tuesday evening.

With centre-half George Ray only recently returning to full time training following his back injury, Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell confirmed the loan signing of Wigan Athletic defender Sam Stubbs on Tuesday evening to bolster his defensive options. Stubbs is in contention for his debut at Blundell Park if one of our regular defenders is ruled out.

The Crewe boss is also hoping that a knee injury to leading goalscorer Chris Porter is not too serious and that a rest from our mid-week defeat in the Checkatrade Trophy will have improved his chances for the weekend.

New signing Conor Grant is in contention to be involved in Cleethorpes after completing his loan deal from Everton yesterday.
