Summer signing Michael Raynes is looking forward to his first experience of a Cheshire/Staffordshire derby this weekend.
Raynes was described as ‘an absolute colossus’ by his mnager after his man-of-the-match performance against Barnet last weekend and the former Carlisle United defender is hoping for more of the same at Vale Park on Saturday.
Raynes helped us secure a 1-0 win over Barnet and his leadership at the back made sure we picked up those first three points of the season. He hopes that the growing confidence in the Crewe camp will help us extend our early unbeaten run against our local rivals.
Michael told iFollow The Alex: “We have had a tough start with the opposition we have faced. We had Mansfield on the opening day and they have probably spent double the money of any other club in the division and we then went down to ten men early on against Newport.
“We have played really well against a Championship side and only lost it late on, so it was a good feeling to get that first win on Saturday. Five points so far and unbeaten in the league has been a decent start in the circumstances.
“It will be nice to play away because we haven’t yet. I know it is probably weird to say that but with it being a local derby as well, it is one to look forward to. These are the ones you want to play in and it is a big game for everyone associated with the two clubs.
“It is always a tough place to go, with that big pitch at Vale Park but if we can play anything like we have done so far this season then we have the players here capable of making sure we get the three points.”
