Crewe Alexandra defender George Ray has successfully re-joined the group after being given the all-clear on his fractured back. Ray has not featured for the club since suffering the injury at Yeovil over the Easter period, but the former Wales Under-21 centre-half has worked exceeding hard to return just weeks into the new season.
Ray will now work on regaining some of his lost fitness and may yet feature for the club’s Under-23 side before being considered for first-team selection.
David Artell told the club’s official web-site: “George has joined in again and has looked fine. We just needed his back to heal as naturally as possible.
“All things being well with him, he will be able to get a full week of training behind him next week and we will assess it again. He has missed a fair bit of football now, so although he is fit enough, he is just lacking in match sharpness.
“We will take things at the right pace with him to make sure he is 100% fit and ready. That was always the objective and why we never set a deadline for him.”
