Boss: "There Is Scope For Change"

8 August 2017

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell has hinted that he will assess his options before deciding on his starting XI for tomorrow night’s Carabao Cup tie against Bolton Wanderers.

Artell has told the club’s official web-site that ‘he will pick a team to win’ because he wants the club to have an extended run in the cup competitions this season.

The Crewe boss said: “Every day is an opportunity for the players to stake their claim. They have every day to impress me and the coaching staff.

“I will see how well they do in training before deciding on the team. I am open to changes because the challenge is there for all of them to get in the team. If not, then we might as well have 11 lads who play as many games as they can and the others won’t get a look in.

“I don’t dismiss anyone here and there is scope for change. I will assess it and if I think someone can help us exploit Bolton's weaknesses then I could go with it.

“We want a cup run. It is good for the confidence and helps builds momentum. Winning is a habit and losing is a habit. It is also good financially and the fans enjoy it.

“I always pick a team to win and Bolton on Wednesday will be no different.”
