Ahead of the weekend opener against Mansfield Town at Gresty Road, David Artell has told the club’s official web-site that he is filled with ‘excitement’ and ‘optimism.’
Crewe host the promotion favourites on opening weekend and Artell says that he wants his side challenging the likes of the Stags this season.
Artell told crewealex.net: “It is always exciting when the first game comes around again. I am the same as a manager as I was as a player. I am optimistic of us having a successful season.
“If I came out and said I would settle for 14th or whatever then what message am I sending out? I’ve spoken to the staff and the players about believing in what we can achieve together.
“Ultimately, you won’t know where you truly are until you are six, seven, ten games in. We want to be in with a chance after 10 games and not having to play catch-up because that makes things more difficult. We want to give ourselves a chance.”
