Artell: "Our Aim Is To Play Our Football More Often"

7 August 2017

David Artell has told the club’s official web-site that although he was overall pleased to have taken a point against the pre-season favourites for promotion; he is still looking for improvement.

Crewe Alexandra twice took the lead against Mansfield Town at the weekend with summer signing Chris Porter scoring both goals, but the Alex boss wasn’t pleased with the goals we conceded to Danny Rose and especially David Mirfin.

The Crewe Alexandra boss told us after the 2-2 draw: “It was a typical League Two game and we had to show some character when they put us under pressure in the second half but I think we shot ourselves in the foot by conceding that second goal just minutes after we regained the lead.

“It was a sloppy goal to concede and it shouldn’t have happened, so we will work on that. Overall there were some really pleasing aspects of our play. On the ball, we were terrific at times. We created two chances in the first half that started from Ben Garratt.

“We would have liked to have played more football. That is the aim and challenge for them. We cannot play that way all the time but the target is to play our football more often. I thought we made a good start considering we had four new players in the starting line-up and some inexperienced youngsters as well.

“We know there is still plenty to work on and that is what we will do.”
