Porter: "Opening Day Win Would Increase Confidence"

4 August 2017

Chris Porter has told iFollow The Alex that the Crewe Alexandra squad have to stick together and become strong mentally and physically if we are to be involved in a promotion push. The vastly experienced striker is set to make his debut for the club against Mansfield Town tomorrow after signing from Colchester United in the summer.

Porter, 33, told iFollow: “There are some very good players here and I’ve been impressed since I came here. There are some very good young players here as well and it doesn’t matter about age, everyone has got to play their part and do their stuff.

“That is what we will be looking to do. We have to stay together as a group and have that strong camaraderie. We have to strong mentally and physically because it is a tough league.

“You also need a bit of luck with injuries along the way. If you can keep the core together an avoid injuries then that gives you a better chance. Hopefully, we can keep a settled team.

Chris added: “It is nice to start with a home game. Steve Evans has a good record of getting teams promoted and they are favourites, so it will be a good test. They have spent some money and are looking to spend again, so we know it will be a tough one but if we can get that win and play well then I’m sure everyone will sit up and take notice.”

There will be more from Chris available on iFollow The Alex. Now is the ideal time to sign up in readiness for the new season. Click here to sign up today.
