Artell On Vale & Pope Threat

25 August 2017

David Artell believes that our near neighbours Port Vale have enough quality to hurt us tomorrow if we don’t take care of our former target man Tom Pope.

Michael Brown’s Valiants go into the game on the back of three straight defeats after losing to Wycombe Wanderers and Chesterfield in the League and to Leeds United in the Championship.

Artell says that early on in the season, teams need time to gel and Brown my still be searching for his best line-up. Yesterday, our neighbours added the former Millwall midfielder David Worrall to their ranks and Artell admits that it is difficult to predict their starting eleven.

The Crewe boss said: “Port Vale have made a number of signings and I would think that Michael is still looking for the right combination.

“They haven’t really had a settled team as yet and they have signed the lad Worrall yesterday, which we were aware of, so it will be interesting to see who starts for them.

“What we do know is, is that it will be a typical derby game. They are an established side, with some real experience. They have some quality with Tonge and we know all about Popey.

“We will focus on us and what we need to do to get over the line in the game. We found a way to win last week against Barnet, so we will be looking for the same tomorrow.”
