David Artell says he is looking forward to welcoming Steve Evans and his staff to the Alexandra Stadium for this weekend’s seasonal opener. Evans, who has won six previous promotions will be aiming to win a glorious 7th after his Mansfield Town side were installed as pre-season favourites to hit top spot.
Rookie boss Artell has nothing but respect for the successful career Evans has enjoyed at the like of Boston, Crawley Town, Rotherham United and Leeds United.
Artell told crewealex.net: “Mansfield are one of the favourites for promotion and it will be a good barometer for us. There is too much emphasis placed on the first game of the season because the build-up is longer but we are prepared and ready.
“Steve Evans is a colourful character and people can say what they like about him. It doesn’t matter to me, all I know is he is a good manager and he has been very successful.
“He has won six promotions and he has been busy in the summer. He knows what he is doing and we know it will be a good one to start with.”
