Artell Admirer Of German Efficiency

24 August 2017

David Artell says he wants his Crewe Alexandra side to take the efficiency they showed against Barnet into this weekend’s first away game of the season at Port Vale.

All four of Crewe’s opening games have been at the Alexandra Stadium and our only defeat came late on against Championship side Bolton Wanderers in the EFL  Cup.

The Crewe Alexandra boss was delighted that his side ‘found a way to win’ against the Bees last weekend and compared the efficiency to get a result to serial winners Germany.

Ahead of the trip to Vale Park, Artell told crewealex.net: “I didn’t think it was a particularly entertaining game last weekend, especially in the first half. I told the players that at half-time and we raised the tempo and found a way to win.

“Saying that having now watched it back as well, we looked the more likely side to win it. We kept going and the players worked their socks off to make sure we got over the line.

“Finding a way to win is what professional sport is all about. Germany do not necessarily have the flair of Brazil, but they are usually there in the later rounds of tournaments. They are efficient and find a way to win. It is a great quality to have.

“I don’t think it makes a massive difference to be away from home. It might make a difference in the Premier League if you are the away team in front of 60,000, 70,000 fans but it won’t have that same effect at our level.

The boss added: “It is a derby game and that gives it an edge, but we are just looking at it as a chance to go there and extend our unbeaten run.”
