"We Will Be Better Prepared In Summer Window"

12 April 2017

Boss says due diligence starts now on potential targets.

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell has revealed that he has already commenced doing his ‘homework’ on potential summer targets. Although the Alex boss has acted swiftly to tie up the likes of George Cooper, James Jones and Ryan Wintle on extended contracts, he stresses that there is still room to bring in new recruits to improve his squad for next season.

Artell and his backroom staff are working tirelessly on trying to recruit not only talented footballers but also the right characters to slip easily into the club’s ethos.

The boss stated: “I will be sitting down with my staff and we will continue to work down the lists and try to narrow down our potential targets. We have worked hard on the lists so far and we are only interested in those who will improve us. They will have to be better than what we already have for a start.

“Then we will start the homework process. We will do our due diligence on them and the things that will come into making it happen or not. We will look at their character, get an idea of their salary, where they live, their family situation, who their agent is.

“There will be a lot to consider and of course they will have to be in our budget range. That is the reality of it and it won’t be easy, but we will be prepared as we can be. We will be ready if they do become available because I would like to do my business as quickly as possible.

“The trick is to get more right than not and it will be a good experience this summer but I know we will be better prepared for it when it does all start moving. “
