Ray: "We Have To Avoid 'Old Ways"

13 April 2017

George Ray says it is important to learn from second half collapse at Accrington.

Alex captain George Ray says it is important that Crewe Alexandra do not slip into old habits after letting a 2-0 lead slip against Accrington Stanley in our last outing.

Ray, 23, says that the team has to learn lessons from our second half collapse at the Wham Stadium on Saturday.

Ray told Crewe Alex PlayerHD: “We have to be stronger and be better in the first phase and second phase at set-pieces. Even better still, we shouldn’t be giving away free-kicks in the first place.

“That is football though. It is a 90 minute game and there is no point playing well for 45 minutes if we don’t end up with anything to show for it.

“We slipped back into our old ways at Accrington during the second half and it can’t happen.

“It is important that we learn from mistakes and make sure we take that into the two games over the Easter period.

The skipper added: “There have been a lot of positives to take from the last few months but you get set-backs at times. That is how football works and it is important you bounce back strongly as quickly as you can.”
