Hollands In Thoughts For Next Season

5 April 2017

Kenny Lunt says midfielder's injury being monitored ahead of decision time

Kenny Lunt says midfielder Danny Hollands could remain a Crewe Alexandra player next season, depending on how he recovers from his severe hamstring problem.

The Alex assistant confirms the 31-year-old midfielder is still in the process of recovering from his lengthy lay-off, but with his current deal expiring in the summer, Lunt admits it will be a tough end of season decision on his future.

Lunt said: "Danny is a quick healer, so he says, & he's coming along nicely. Hopefully we'll have him back before the end of the season.

"There's a lot of players who's contracts are up who we're looking at & seeing if taking them or not taking them.

"Some will be in our hands, some won't. Some have been offered already, some haven't, we'll just keep looking & speaking & seeing if we can improve.

"For Danny especially, he's had this serious injury & if he can get back before the end of the season then we can see how he is & see whether he has come back well, & if he does that then I'm sure he'll be here next year.

"If he doesn't then we'll give him pre-season to see how he reacts from the injury & we'll sit down & speak about it then.

"It's a shame for him because of the way he was playing for us before the injury, but we cant rush to sign someone with that injury. We have to wait to see how they come back & we can't take any risks if there's a good chance if he'll be injured for a lot of next year.

"We have to make a decision when the time is right."
