Davis on improving Ainley and Kirk
Steve Davis says that Academy graduates Callum Ainley and Charlie Kirk deserve their new and improved contracts after forcing their way into his plans over the last 12 months. Both teenagers extended their stay at the Alexandra Stadium until the summer of 2018 and Davis is delighted that both of them did not hesitate continuing their footballing education with us.
Both Ainley and Kirk have already played first-team football with Ainley recently on target away at Accrington Stanley in the Checkatrade Trophy Group Stage.
Steve told the club’s official web-site: “The two boys have been rewarded for their hard work and the fact that they are making progress. They have probably played more first team games than they would have expected and Callum has scored a couple of goals as well.
“They have come a long way in a short space of time and they deserve their new deals. We have always said that we will try and reward our young players when they progress and show that improvement.
He added: “I am pleased with them both but they know that they have a lot of hard work ahead of them. They know they cannot stand still. If that ever happens then we are on to them but they know the hard work has to continue.”
