Steve: "Nice To Work With The Players"

7 September 2016

Alex boss says he is pleased that a 'free' week allows him to strive for improvement.

Steve Davis says it has made for a refreshing change to be back out on the training ground this week and working with his players. The Alex boss has steered us through a hectic start to the season and other than Liam Smith (ankle), he has virtually a full squad to choose from ahead of Saturday’s home game against Exeter City this weekend.

The Alex boss will be back on the training ground with his coaching staff this week reinforcing the work they got through during the pre-season.

Steve explained to crewealex.net: “We have had a hard start to the season with the number of games we have had to get through during the first month.

“It will be nice to be able to get back out onto the training ground and work with the players again. We haven’t been able to do that as much because we have been playing mid-week or had Under-23 matches.

“With the number of games we have had, it has been able their recovery and making sure they are fresh for the next game. We have been pleased with the fitness levels and we have avoided any serious injuries.

“We will have short and sharp sessions and will reinforce what we did over the pre-season. There are things to work on and things we can do better.

Steve added: “We will go over things, work on our pattern of play and work on our defending. If you ask any of the players they would probably say they prefer playing to training, but the work we do in the week is necessary because if they do the things we ask of them then they have a better chance of winning the game.”
