Midfielder suffers ankle injury after only just returning to training.
Crewe Alexandra’s on-loan midfielder Liam Smith has suffered another ankle injury but not on the same ankle he suffered with in pre-season. Smith suffered his latest set-back in training and after being assessed here at Crewe will once again return to his parent club Newcastle United for treatment.
Crewe Alexandra are currently in talks with Newcastle in relation to his loan deal which expires in January. A scan has revealed that Smith could be ruled out for the remaining months of his loan agreement with us.
Steve Davis explained to crewealex.net: “Liam has been really unfortunate with injuries and he has suffered another ankle injury but it is on the other one this time. He flipped his ankle over in training and after being assessed here has returned to Newcastle.
“We are in talks with Newcastle about his loan because it looks like it could be months rather than weeks, so we will have to see what happens. It could be that he is unavailable for the duration of his loan.
“Liam is a talented boy and it is a shame because he hasn’t been able to show what he can do. He has had some really bad luck with his ankles but I am sure that when he is fully fit again he will be able to show people how good he is.”
