Smith Returns To Crewe To Continue Rehab

2 September 2016

On-loan midfielder returns to Crewe after ankle injury.

On loan midfielder Liam Smith has now returned to Crewe Alexandra to continue his rehab from an ankle injury. The Newcastle United midfielder suffered an ankle injury late on in our pre-season game against Bolton Wanderers and returned to his parent club to be assessed and start his recovery.

Smith, 20, is back running now and will be hoping to join in training as soon as he gets clearance from the club’s medical department.

Steve Davis says that the talented youngster will have to prove his match fitness first with the club’s Development Squad before he will be considered for first-team action.

Steve told crewealex.net: “Liam is back with us now and we are pleased to have him back. He got injured in pre-season and hasn’t really had an opportunity to show what he can do.

“He is a talented lad, with a lot of ability and I’m looking forward to working with him. He has missed a lot of football, so he will play with the Under-23s for a bit to help him get that sharpness back.”
