Davis: "We Want To Play Attractive Football"

1 September 2016

Boss explains his decision to go without a target man this season.

Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that he resisted the temptation to replace target Marcus Haber with another big forward to protect the philosophy of the football club.

Davis allowed the Canadian International to leave in the summer and instead swooped to sign a different type of striker with the recruitment of Ryan Lowe and Chris Dagnall. The experienced duo have started the new season in fine form, scoring three goals each in all competitions.

Steve explained to the club’s official web-site: “We don’t have a big man to call upon up front. We don’t have that as a plan B. The philosophy of the club is to play more football so that is why I chose to let the big man go (Haber) and go with a different type of striker.

“We went for strikers with experience, who can create and score goals and I think they have done very well for us so far. We didn’t create enough genuine chances for them at Cheltenham and we will be looking to improve on that against Doncaster this weekend.”
