Davis Was Struggling With Illness

12 September 2016

Boss says he made the right decision to change his centre-back in the second half.

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis has revealed that defender Harry Davis was nearly replaced at half-time on Saturday after complaining of feeling unwell. The central defender had been suffering with illness earlier in the week but was given the green light to start against Exeter City.

He was later replaced by George Ray in the second half, as Crewe recorded back-to-back home wins thanks to a 2-0 victory.

Steve explained to crewealex.net: “Harry was ill and I nearly took him off at half-time. He had been unwell earlier in the week but wanted to play.

“He didn’t feel too good after the first half, so I made the right decision by doing the switch. I thought there were a few of them looking tired and a bit fatigued in their decision making. If I had more substitutes I could have replaced three or four more of them.

“But they kept going, worked hard and to get the clean-sheet was a real bonus to go with the three points. “
