Davis Challenges Fringe Contingent

Kiwomya injury opens the door for someone else

Steve Davis wants those players currently out of his starting XI to continue to put pressure on those players ahead of them in the team.

Alex Morris’s Development Squad travel to Colchester this evening and recent injuries to our loan players Liam Smith (ankle) and Alex Kiwomya (shoulder) means a first-team place will become closer for someone.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “There will be a number of them who need a game tonight. It is a mixed team going to Colchester but a strong one. The majority of them have played for the first team before.

“They need a game to keep their match fitness ticking over but they also need to try and impress. It is an opportunity for them to push themselves further forward. They need game time but they could find themselves closer to the team with Liam and now Alex out injured.

They have to be ready to take that chance. “They will get opportunities throughout the season because injuries do happen. The team you start the season with is not necessary the team you finish with. A lot can happen over a long season.

The boss added: “We have a strong unit here at the moment and have been doing well with our result and performances, so they all want to play. That is a healthy situation to be in and I want that competition for places.
