Boss says Cooper has deserved to keep his place following consistent start to the season.
Steve Davis says that he is pleased with both of his wide men after Alex Kiwomya was nominated for the League Two Player of the Month award. Kiwomya finds out if he will be the recipient of the first award of the season at the end of the week.
Davis is also pleased with the contribution of Academy Graduate George Cooper. The Warrington-born forward has been involved in every League Two game this season. He was withdrawn early at Cheltenham due to tactical reasons but responded brilliantly by scoring and assisting Daniel Udoh’s goal away at Accrington Stanley in the Checkatrade Trophy.
Steve told the club’s official web-site:” I am pleased with both wingers, and I know I have Kirk and Ainley to come in as well and I'm equally pleased with what they are producing in training and the games they have played.
“George has definitely shown more maturity this season, he has shown more consistency. Wingers have a tendency to drift in and out of games and he still has that in him, but as long as he is creative and able to display the skills he has got within the team structure then he deserves to be picked every week.
“He has become more of a first choice now which is all credit to him, it's about him following instructions and being given the freedom to produce the things he is capable of.
“I always know I can sit down and talk to George and so can anyone else at the club, he takes it in the right way and knows we all want him to succeed.
“I think he is comfortable in that environment and he knows he frustrates us and also that he is capable of providing the excitement we want as well.
Steve add: “We have to keep managing him properly, he needs an arm around him sometimes and other times he needs pushing or a little telling off.”
