Steve Davis hoping goalkeeper and centre-half will commit their futures to the Alex.

Steve Davis has revealed that he has made contract offers to his number one goalkeeper Ben Garratt and his central defender Jon Guthrie. The Alex boss is hoping that two of his most consistent performers will follow youngsters Callum Ainley and Charlie Kirk by signing new deals with the club.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “I am pleased that Callum and Charlie signed their contracts. They were offered them and a few days later they came in and signed. There didn’t hesitate and it was a welcome change that there wasn’t any agents involved.

“I always believe that a young player doesn’t need an agent unless they are progressing up the leagues. That is the stage when they need one to help them with that.

“We have also made offers to Ben and Jon. We are yet to receive a reply from them on that. I am sure they are considering that and all we can do is wait at the moment.”
