Club hoping youngster will be fit for weekend after suffering slight knock to the head.
Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis is hopeful that Callum Ainley will declare himself fit and available for our weekend clash with Blackpool after he was on the receiving end of a head collision on Monday evening.
Ainley received a knock on his head during our Development Squad encounter at Colchester and was withdrawn at half-time as a precaution. Crewe went on to win the game 4-1 with Callum Saunders and Danny Udoh scored two goals apiece.
With winger Alex Kiwomya ruled out with a shoulder injury, Steve Davis has to select a replacement with Ainley one of the front runners for a recall to the starting XI.
Steve Davis told us: “Callum started at Colchester but got a knock on his head so he was withdrawn at half-time. It was a precautionary thing and we hope he will be fine for the weekend but it wasn’t ideal because he could have done with some game time.”
