Crewe lose one of our finest ever goalscorers aged 77.
Everyone at Crewe Alexandra Football Cup has been deeply saddened by the news that one of our true club greats Herbert ‘Bert’ Llewellyn has passed away at the age of 77. The Golborne-born striker scored a prolific 58 goals in 106 starts for Crewe Alexandra after signing from Everton in July 1958.
He had played for Everton in the First Division as a promising youngster before joining Crewe Alexandra in the newly formed Fourth Division. His eye for goals later saw him join our neighbours Port Vale for a transfer fee of £7,000. He would also represent Northampton Town and Walsall and finish his career with over 100 goals.
Our thoughts today are with the family and friends of Bert.
