Ray Side-lined With Groin Problem

Defender missed Luton & Coventry U23 Trips with injury

Crewe Alexandra defender George Ray missed the trip to Luton at the weekend with a niggling groin injury that worsened after playing 90 minutes against Wolves in the Checkatrade Trophy.

The centre-half returned to training on Friday last week, but the problem intensified and he now faces a spell on the side-lines.

Manager Steve Davis said: “He’s got a groin problem at the moment.

“He felt it on the Monday before the Tuesday game against Wolves a little bit and then after the game he was suffering with that.

“He came back into training and felt it again, so we pulled him out on Friday ahead of the trip to Luton.

“The Physio said he needed to rest it up so he wasn’t going to be available for a week or so to let it settle down, and it is settling down now so he shouldn’t be out for too long.

“It’s handy having Nugent back from injury now, he got 60 minutes at Coventry and can come onto the bench to take George’s place like he did at Luton.”
