Tartan Army finish qualifying campaign with loss in Macedonia

Crewe Alexandra's midfielder James Jones played 88 minutes in Skopje for Scotland Under 21's as they fell to a 2-0 defeat in their final U21 European Championships Qualifier against Macedonia.

The win for the hosts has propelled them into next summer's tournament in Poland, alongside England, but Scotland ended the qualification fifth in a six team group with only two wins.

New manager Scot Gemmill came in for the final two dead rubber games in Iceland and Macedonia over the last week, and picked a much changed squad with James Jones being called up for the first time.

After getting 90 minutes in Iceland last week, Jonah earned his second U21 cap in Macedonia and played the majority of the game before being withdrawn late on.

Jones is set to return to Crewe Alexandra on Thursday ahead of the weekend's trip to Notts County.
