Consistency Will Be Key To Push

18 October 2016

Steve Davis says Crewe just have to keep ticking over in quest to be involved in promotion chase.

Steve Davis says Crewe Alexandra will have to discover some real consistency if we are going to be challenging for automatic promotion.

The Alex boss has been pleased with the character his players have shown in coming back from going a goal down in four of our last five games, but he wants us to secure maximum points more often, starting with Yeovil at home on Saturday.

Steve firmly believes that there will not be one team running away with it this season and a consistent run could yet see Crewe as genuine contenders for promotion.

The boss told the club’s official web-site: “It was good to come back after going a goal down again, especially with us having a goal not given when it should have been.

“It was good not to get beaten and another point keeps us ticking over, but we need to get three points as often as possible. If we had been able to convert some of those draws into wins then we would have been in a much better position.

“It is just about finding that consistency because I don’t think there is an outstanding team who is going to run away with it. There is not that much between the teams, so those who are the most consistent will be promoted.

He added: “Plymouth have been the most consistent team and that is why they are top of the league. I am sure they will have a period when they suffer some losses like we all will. It is about how you cope with that. It is the nature of the league and we just have to make sure we are right in there.”
