Boss: "Lowery Has Shown We Can Trust Him"

17 October 2016

Steve pleased with youngster's full debut at Meadow Lane.

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis says that youngster Tommy Lowery has shown that he can be trusted to start games for the first team. The Holmes Chapel based teenager was rewarded with his full debut at Meadow Lane and the talented midfielder didn’t let us down with another mature performance in our 1-1 draw. Lowery, 18, was eventually replaced by our goalscorer on the day, Alex Kiwomya, but he still earned praise from the boss.

Steve said after the 1-1 draw with Notts County: “Tom was fine. He played his part and did his job defensively. He was good in possession and showed some nice touches in tight areas.

“His next step is to become more creative and have opportunities at goal but he has shown that we can trust him. He can be pleased with what was his full debut.

“That is what I want from the young players. They have to learn from their mistakes because we cannot have them costing us points or games. They cannot make the same mistakes time and time again and that is why they have to come out of the team and then go back in.

“That is what their development is all about.”
